CJST is started its 2020 season with a cleanup on the Manville floodplain upstream of Dukes Parkway Park on Saturday, February 22nd. We broke up into several groups to clear junk
accumulated from a previous trash sweep, cleaned any remaining junk and litter on the floodplain, and clean along the embankment along Dukes Parkway (lots of litter!). Another group of hardy
volunteer took a bit of a walk to get a few tires near the river including a large tractor tire. Many thanks to Manville Borough and Somerset County Parks for trash disposal!
The event began at 9:00 AM ended around 1:00 PM.
Please park on the gravel. Come on out and join us for sign up, instructions and safety...and enjoy some light breakfast on us! We'll then break into groups with one group heading to Dukes
Parkway Park and working between the guardrail and the river back towards Gerber Field.
Please note that registration/RSVP is important so that we know what kind and how many supplies and refreshments to bring and set up. This is especially true if you are bringing a larger group.
Volunteer Instructions:
1. Bring along your family and friends! It's going to be a really fun and great day! The more junk we find the more rewarding the experience!
2. Wear sturdy footwear and clothing you don't mind getting dirty! Please dress for the weather and in layers since you will get warm while cleaning. We will not be going in the water but there
is a small stream to cross which could be muddy.
4. We will provide garbage bags, work gloves, tools, sunscreen, bug spray, light breakfast, and water for volunteers.
So come on out! We look forward to restoring this small piece of the watershed with you!
Please contact Jens Riedel at jens.riedel@cjstreamteam.org if you have questions or if you plan on bringing a larger group.
